French Court To Rule In Fake Case Against eBay

A Paris court will decide whether to make eBay pay EUR51 million($80 million) in damages to Louis Vuitton and other French luxury groups for letting fake copies of their goods be auctioned on its Web site.

Louis Vuitton Malletier, the handbag and luggage section of the LVMH group, and Christian Dior Couture are seeking EUR20 million and EUR17 million respectively for “negligence” on the part of the online auctioneer.

Four perfume subsidiaries of LVMH are between them seeking EUR14 million for “illicit sales” of their products.
